First sawmills 1915-1945
A short history of the Hearst and area sawmills
The Hearst Public Library was founded on December 17, 1974. In its beginning, the library was situated in the basement of the Hearst High School where it shared its space with the school library. On June 4th, 1984, the library moved downtown to a new location situated at 817 George Street, formerly Maurice Lecours Limitée. Since July 1994, it is at its present location, 801 George Street. In 1993, the Friends of the library was founded. The funds raised through their various activities go towards the improvement of the library in general.
